These Asian Countries are Opened for Travelers Right Now

2020 has been a tough year for everyone, and particularly to those who travel, weather for business or pleasure. In 2021, with the launch of the COVID-19 vaccines, we are seeing more countries safely and gradually opening up, allowing their own residents to travel and permitting the entry of tourists into their borders, including some of the Asian countries.

These are good news and, hopefully, more countries in Asia and around the world will be able to reopen, but meanwhile, even entering those countries that already reopened require a lot of bureaucracy, such as taking pre and post-departure tests, submitting health questionnaires and possible quarantines.

In this article, we are covering the Asian countries who are fully open for travelers with more specific information on the entry requirements:

SINGAPORE

Singapore has been very successful in responding to the initial coronavirus outbreak, and managed to keep coronavirus cases at minimum rate.

As of October 19, when Singapore launched the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) program, it allowed fully vaccinated U.S. travelers to apply for quarantine-free entry.

Travelers are required to present a negative result of a PCR test taken within 48 hours of passengers’ departing flight.

THAILAND

Thailand is open to fully vaccinated travelers from certain countries (U.S. included) as of November 1, 2021. No quarantine is required, but all passengers arriving in Thailand must take a PCR test and spend 1 day at an approved hotel for their (hopefully) negative test results.

In order to enter Thailand, travelers are required to register for a digital vaccine passport - a process that may take up to 7 days. This Thai pass requires passengers to show proof of a medical insurance, passport information, airline ticket, proof of vaccine, and proof of one-night hotel booking for arrival PCR test.

TAJ MAHAL INDIA

INDIA

India will be opening its borders for travelers with tourist or e-tourist visas issued on or after October 6, 2021, starting November 15, 2021.

All travelers are required to submit a negative PCR test, taken within 72 hours of their departing flight, to the “Air Suvidha” portal.

Upon arrival, passengers are screened for fever upon arrival, and will not be required to quarantine if their temperature is normal.

The Maldives

THE MALDIVES

The Maldives borders have been opened since July 2020.

Travelers who wish to visit the Maldives must make their hotel reservations with one of the registered hotels in order to be granted entry. In addition, all travelers are required to stay at the same hotel throughout their stay in the Maldives.

All travelers, even vaccinated, have to take a PCR test within 72 hours prior to arrival and present the negative results in order to be allowed to enter the Maldives.

Nepal

NEPAL

Nepal started welcoming tourists and travelers in September 24, 2021, to visit without quarantine. Upon arrival in Nepal, vaccinated tourists must present a proof of vaccination, a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of entry, a proof of hotel reservation, and a copy of the International Traveler Online Arrival Form.

SRI-LANKA

U.S. Travelers who wish to enter Sri Lanka need to present a valid tourists visa, present a negative PCR test taken 72 hours prior to arrival, take another test upon arrival, and quarantine at a government hotel for 1-2 nights (yes, even fully vaccinated visitors)

Beware that currently Sri-Lanka is submitted to a night curfews running between 10PM to 4AM, with some additional inter-provincial travel restrictions due to outbreaks.
